Judge Homer L. Kreider - retired from bench in '72

Judge Homer L. Kreider , 90, of 2654 N. Second St. died Friday in Polyclinic Medical Center.

He was the widower of Nita Spangler Kreider ; was a veteran of World War I; graduate of the former Harrisburg Central High School; 1921 graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle; 1924 graduate of Dickinson College School of Law; received an honorary degree of doctor of laws from Lebanon Valley College in 1957; began practicing law in 1924 and early in his career had taught business law at the former Beckley Business College, Harrisburg, and political science at Norristown High School.

He served as a judge of the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas from 1952-1965. In 1965 began serving as president judge until his retirement in 1972; and from 1972-1983 he received special appointments by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to specially preside in trials in 15 counties.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church; was a 63-year member of Euclid Lodge 698, F&AM; Harrisburg Consistory; Zembo Temple; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Harrisburg Forest 43; York Rite Bodies; American Legion Post 27; Elks Lodge 12; board of directors of the Polyclinic Medical Center and the Josiah W. and Bessie H. Kline Foundation; past president of the Dauphin County Historical Society, The Keystonians, the Executive Club of Central Pennsylvania, the Dauphin County Bar Association, and the Harrisburg Torch Club; was past regent and 60-year member of the Pennsylvania Royal Arcanum; and was made a 33rd-degree Mason in 1968.

Surviving are a daughter, Helen K. Henderson of Tucson, Ariz., and two grandsons.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kimmel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Carl M. Schneider officiating. Entombment will be in East Harrisburg Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends may call Friday an hour before services at the funeral home.
