Jacob Rice (Rais) Official Military Papers

This is a transcription of the first two pages of Jacob Rice's military record. The other six pages are mostly redundant and don't provide any additional information.

I certify, on honor, that Jacob Rais a private of Captain Wotkomski's(?) Light Company A of the Artillary Volunteers, of the State of Pennsylvania, born in Germany, State of Wurtemburg, aged 40 years; 5 feet 5 one quarter inches high; healthy complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, and by occupation a Potter, having joined the company at Fort Delaware, and enrolled in it at the muster into the service of the United States at Philadelphia, on the twenty-first day of September, 1864, (or was mustered in service as a recruit, by Captain Mandly(?), at Philadelphia, on the 21st day of September 1864, to serve in the Regiment,) for the term of one year and having served Honestly and Faithfully with his Company in Fort Delaware to the present date, died on the 9th day of December 1864 by reason of small-pox in the contagious hospital at Fort Delaware

The said private Jacob Rais was not paid since his enlistment the 21st day of September, 1864, and has pay due him from that time to the present date; his is entitled to pay and subsistence for traveling to place of enrollment and whatever other allowances are authorized to volunteer soldiers, or militia so discahrged. He has received forty four dollars, advanced by the United States on account of clothing.
