Alvin K. Kettering, retired secetary-treasurer of the A. S. Kreider Shoe Company, died Wednesday at 9:15 p. m. in the Good Samaritan Hospital. A resident of 144 N. College Ave., Annville, he would have been 83 today. He had been a patient at the hospital for three days.
A native of Campbelltown, he was a son of the late Henry and Lydia Kreider Kettering. He had resided in Annville for the past 67 years. He was a member of the Annville Evangelical United Brethren Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Annville. He was a charter member of the Annville Rotary Club. Prior to retirement, he served 62 years as secretary-treasurer of the Kreider firm. He was a summer resident of Mt. Gretna.
Surviving are one son, Michael H. Kettering, Bethlehem; six daughters, Mrs. Josephine Hunley, Baltimore, Md.; Abigail, wife of Dr. P. M. Schildnecht, Lancaster; Mrs. Esther Adair, Richmond, Va.; Elizabeth, wife of L. R. Chapman, Cleona; Ruth, wife of Col. R. D. Miller, Annville, and Claire, wife of Col. H. E. Maclaren, Honolulu, Hawaii. Ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, one sister Violet, wife of Elliott Nagle, Annville, and one brother, Harry E. Kettering, Fairmont, W. Va., also survive.
