Melvin Hoffer of Manheim RD 3, brother of Lebanon resident, died in the Lancaster General Hospital Tuesday after a long illness. He was 70. Born in Rapho Township, Lancaster County, he was the husband of Erma C. Smith Hoffer and a son of the late Amos and Sara Gibble Hoffer.

Hoffer was a retired employee of the Fuller Company of Manheim, and had also engaged in farming. He belonged to the White Oak Church of the Brethren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Abel M. of Manheim RD 3 and Enos A., Penryn; three daughters, Dorothy, wife of Norman Sauder, Manheim RD 4; Helen R., wife of Jay N. Miller, Manheim RD 3 and Anna Mary, wife of John Youtz, Manheim RD 3; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters, Stella, wife of Harvey Hoover, Lebanon; Mary, wife of Ammon Gibble, Middletown RD; David and Ammon Hoffer, both of Lebanon, and Anna, wife of Lester Bucher, and Paul Hoffer, both of Lebanon.
