John R. Kettering, 89, formerly of Palmyra, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Masonic Village. Born January 31, 1922, in Palmyra, he was a son of the late Joseph H. and Virgie (Kreider) Kettering. He was the widower of Helen M. (Miller) Kettering, who died March 13, 1996, and was also preceded in death by sisters, Anna Kettering and Elizabeth McNeill, and brother, Joseph Kettering.
A retired salesman from National Cash Register, he was a member of First United Methodist Church, Palmyra, since 1947, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Brownstone Lodge #666 F. & A.M.
Surviving are his daughter, Dianne Kettering of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Brenton Bender of Lebanon and Shelby Palmer of Blain; three great-grandchildren; niece, Cindy Frantz of Palmyra; nephews, James Kettering of Las Vegas, Nev., and Thomas Kettering of Palmyra; and sister-in-law, Gloria Kettering of Palmyra.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2011, at First United Methodist Church, 520 E. Birch St., Palmyra. Interment will be in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Memorial contributions may be made to Lebanon Valley Brethren Home Good Samaritan Fund, 1200 Grubb St., Palmyra, PA 17078; or to Masonic Village, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
