Edwin L. Kreider, real estate assessor of the Fifth Ward, who resided at 228 Lehman Street for many years, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital at 9:30 o'clock this morning. He had been in failing health for some time and was under treatment at the hospital. He was aged 80 years.
A large part of his life was spent in the service of the Miller Organ Company at Eighth and Maple Streets. In younger years in the mechanical department, and later in the sales division. When the company suspended operations, he became a piano salesman in the service of his nephew, Grant L. Miller who at that time operated a music store on Cumberland Street.
He was a staunch Republican and in his more active days wielded a real influence as one the leaders in the Fifth Ward. He had a genial disposition, and had many friends, especially around the courthouse where he spent his leisure time.
He was a member of Seventh Street Lutheran Church, the Knights of Pythius, and Camp No. 65[?], Sons of America.
He leaves his wife, Frances (Stevens) Kreider; two sons, Walter J., at home and Arthur S., of Baltimore, Md., several nieces and a nephew.
