A cerebral hemorrhage caused the sudden death Saturday afternoon of Dr. Jacob N. Becker, of Palmyra, and ended an active career as a veterinarian which had been followed for three generations by members of the Becker clan. Dr. Becker was seventy-seven years of age. He died at the Millard farm, west of Annville, between 3 and 4 o'clock, after finishing work at the Millard racing stables. Deputy Coroner John Light investigated.
Dr. Becker, who resided for the past fifty-two years in Palmyra, had left his home at 109 North Railroad Street in company with Henry Hoover, of Palmyra, for the Millard stables. He had finished his work there according to information received, and had entered his car to return home. As he was backing his machine and had stopped the car he was stricken. Before Dr. S. A. Hartman could arrive, Dr. Becker had died.
He was a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party, being a member of the Democratic Club of Lebanon, and of the executive committee of the Lebanon County Democratic Party. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, 228, Lebanon; a charter member of the Palmyra Automobile Club which was organized in 1910, an honorary member of the Harrison Quigley Post, 72, of Palmyra; and a Palmyra Auto Club director for the past ten years. He at one time held membership with the Salem Lutheran church in this city.
The deceased was born February 10, 1857, at Iona, the son of Jacob N. and Molly Becker. He followed the profession of veterinarian which his grandfather and father had practiced. His wife, Mrs. Mary Becker, died eight years ago.
Surviving him are two sisters, Mrs. George Kreider, of West Cherry Street, Palmyra, and Mrs. Sara Kramer, of Lebanon; a sister-in-law, Ada Kreider, and a niece, Mrs. Gertrude Peters, at home. A number of additional nieces and nephews also survive.
