Rendered tired of life by her own ill health and by worry over the poor health of her husband, Mrs, Alice Phillips Kreider, wife of John Kreider, of No. 20 Pershing Avenue, on Tuesday ended it all by hanging herself to a bed in her bedroom on the second floor of her home.
Found by Neighbors.
The body was found by neighbors about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, When the heavy showers passed over the city shortly after 1 o'clock, the neighbors noticed that the windows on the second floor of the Kreider home were open. Thinking the neighbor might be asleep, they spent some time trying to arouse her. Failing in that they reached the conclusion that she must have gone out to visit a neighbor and could not get home, so they decided upon the neighborly assistance of closing the windows, themselves. Upon entering the house they made the ghastly find.
Husband at Work
The body was found hanging to the end of a piece of washline which had been tied to the head end of the bed. As the body was cold when found, it is suspected the act was committed some time in the morning. Mr. Kreider had gone to his work at the Herrmann-Aukam plant on North Seventh street, early in the morning. Owing to his ill-health and weakness, he made a habit of carrying his noonday lunch with him, and therefore did not return at the noon hour. He was summoned to his home as soon as the dead body of his wife was discovered.
In Despondent Mood.
It is said that Mrs. Kreider was despondent for some time over her failing health. For several weeks past she is said to have been so greatly worried, that she could neither eat normally, nor sleep restfully, and under nourishment and insomnia combined are thought to have affected her reason.
52 Years of Age.
Mrs. Kreider was aged 52 years. There are no children. She was born and raised in the region of Five Points, near where she died. She was a good neighbor and those in the vicinity, as well as many other friends and relatives are deeply distressed over her unforunate end. Besides her husband, she leaves two brothers, Robert and Adam Phillips of Lebanon, and a sister Mrs. ??? of Avon.
